En 1968, le 6 avril à Londres, triomphe de Massiel pour lEspagne avec La, la , la.
Cette chanson devait être initialement interprétée par Joan Manuel Serrat, mais comme il voulait chanter en catalan, dans le but dattirer lattention sur la marginalisation politique de cette langue, Franco na pas autorisé sa participation.
  
Cliff Richard (Royaume-Uni) avec Congratulations a obtenu la deuxième place devant Isabelle Aubret (France) avec La source. Carlos Mendes chantait pour le Portugal Verão.
CLIFF ENFIN RECOMPENSE!
Mais en ce début de mois de mai 2008, quarante ans après, la vérité que l'on soupçonnait a enfin éclaté. L'Espagne a reconnu que le Général Franco, pour valoriser son régime dictatorial, avait acheté certains pays afin d'organiser en 69 l'Eurovision. Ainsi, point d'orgue de cette tricherie, l'Irlande où Cliff était le chanteur number One n'a donné aucun point pour Congratulations qui échoua à une seule unité de l'Espagne!!!
Cliff n'avait jamais digéré sa seconde place et ce vol manifeste. Aujourd'hui, justice est enfin rendue. Congratulations (qui n'est pas, tant s'en faut, mon titre préféré) fut vendu à un million d'exemplaires alors que la chanteuse espagnole sombra dans l'oubli. Ce titre fut number one deux semaines aux UK et 13 semaines dans le top. Magnifique même si loin d'être un record. Living Doll, par exemple, occupa la pole position pendant 6 semaines. Ce n'est pas un record, Move it...(Allez j'arrête).
