Two international singing stars, Bonnie Tyler and Sir Cliff Richard, dropped into the Kiss Fm studios in Albufeira for the Solid Gold Sunday Show on Sunday morning (August 23) and spoke to their friend and radio presenter, Owen Gee.
Sir Cliff and Bonnie talked about the late English singer and actress Cilla Black and their fond memories of her. Sir Cliff had just returned from attending Cilla’s funeral and soon after attended a local function where he was awarded ‘The Gold Key to the City of Albufeira’.
They both spoke about how they love to go out on their boats and admire the Algarve coastline and their favourite foods - Sir Cliff has a penchant for “piri-piri” chicken while Bonnie enjoys the food served at Portofino’s on Lagos Marina.
Questions came in from 54 countries. One asked: “What other job would they have done if they had not become professional singers?” Bonnie said she loves make-up and thought she could have gone into special-effects makeup, although she did have a go at short-hand typing but found she was not very good at it. Cliff studied to be a teacher at the Trent Park Teacher Training College.
Owen played tracks by both artists from past, present and even future. The look on Sir Cliff’s face showed surprise when Owen had actually obtained clips from Volume 2 of the ‘Rock and Roll Songbook’ album, which is not due to be released until 2016. However, he played the full track of ‘Golden’ from Cliff’s album ‘75 at 75’, due out when he starts his 75th birthday tour next month. ‘Golden’ is dedicated to all the loyal fans he has had over his sparkling golden years.
Bonnie Tyler continues to tour and was quite adamant she is not going to be releasing any new material in the foreseeable future. Fans will have to wait and see if that actually happens, as both artists admitted one part of the job they loved was being in the recording studio.
While at the Kiss Fm studios, they had the chance to verify Captain Peter’s weight-loss, in aid of NECI, the school for mentally and physically handicapped children situated just outside Praia da Luz.
